Halong Bay = limestone pinnacles jutting up from the sea, beautiful and very very popular. Ninh Binh = limestone pinnacles jutting up from the rice paddies, beautiful and refreshingly uncrowded. Its harvesting time, so the padi fields are filled with activity. Back breaking collecting, threshing and burning. Outrageously photogenic.
We took an interesting trip to the National Park at Phuc Quong - home of the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre, where they are possibly fighting a losing battle against the demands of chinese medicines - with its premium on obscure body parts. The species in the centre which has a fully and semi protected area are primarily langurs and gibbons.
