White water swimming 20/11/08

Back in Kathmandu trying to get a flight to Bangladesh, hopeful for next week. So whats new? Well we did a 3 daywhite water rafting trip on the Kali Gandaki. It didnt quite go to plan. Before we got into the more challenging stretches of water, the 'guide' had put us through a set of manoeuvres, and had run through safety instructions, should we get into a spot of bother, but he had also said that this was a mere formality as no one would be coming out of the boat. Within 3 hours of rafting, and after supposedly negotiating the 2 most difficult rapids on the river, surprise surprise, there was actually no one left in the boat, as it completely flipped, throwing us all out into some pretty cold churning water. It was an expensive trip for me as I lost one lens from my David Beckham Police sunglasses, and a sandal. 1 hour later, 2 more had fallen out, and we came to the conclusion that our guide was full of hot air, and would have probably fallen out of a bath. The 2 young English lads loved it, but Ell & I, and 2 seasoned Russian campaigners thought the guide was very bloody lucky. The rest of the crew were great, and camping on the river banks at night was good. We even treated the locals to a storming version of 'Bubbles', in retaliation for us having to sit through an hour or 2 of dubious Nepali folk songs.
